Developed under the Symantec Technology Enabled Program (STEP),
TransVault is a Windows-based application designed to
accelerate, manage and simplify the movement of email records
between different Vault Stores in different locations, on
different storage platforms or in separate organizations. It can
also move email from other archive systems-both on-site and
hosted-into Enterprise Vault.
Data is
extracted and imported by way of connectors that offer full
support for the Enterprise Vault API as well as other common
archive formats.
The
central component of TransVault is a performance optimized data
migration engine that processes extremely large numbers of
archived emails, applying conversion and transformation when
required.
It
processes data in accordance with meta‐data (e.g. owner,
location, email headers, flags, etc.) enabling data to be moved
selectively. For
example, you could migrate just the last 2 years’ worth of
archived data belonging to the marketing department to a new
Vault Store.
TransVault converts (re-points) shortcuts in users’ mailboxes so
that they automatically retrieve emails from the new Vault
Store. TransVault can also optionally re-write email addresses
to reflect a move to a new domain.
All
migration activity is logged and audited to ensure the integrity
of your email records, thus preserving evidential weight as you
move data from one archive to another.
TransVault supports a variety of scenarios:
-
Movement of selected data between Vault Stores, for example,
to enable the relocation of individuals’ archived data
between sites or to support archive growth.
-
Upgrades of Enterprise Vault – e.g. version 6+ to version
8+.
-
Consolidation onto Enterprise Vault following a merger or
acquisition (in which case organizations can move data
between separate instances or versions of Enterprise vault,
or other vendors’ archives onto Enterprise Vault).
-
Movement of data between different storage options to
protect against media obsolescence or enable migration to a
preferred storage option.
-
Migration of users’ data from an unsatisfactory or
end-of-life archive system into Enterprise Vault.
KEY
FEATURES
Selective Migration: In
advance of your migration TransVault builds an accurate profile
of the contents of your archive. This includes decomissioned
mailboxes that are no longer actively being archived and data
for which shortcuts have been deleted. You can then filter your
archived data and create migration tasks by user, group,
department, folder, date range, or any combination of those
criteria. This
enables
just the relevant data to be migrated.
Address Re-writing: If
needed, TransVault can be used to re-write email addresses in
sender and recipient fields so that the email is usable within a
new domain or reflects new addressing conventions. For example,
jane.doe@acme.com could be rewritten as j_doe@newcorp.com.
This enables legacy email to function correctly in the new
environment, thereby ensuring zero impact on your end users.
Progress Auditing:
TransVault keeps track of the migration process and if an
individual item fails (e.g. owing to data corruption or
connectivity issues) tasks can be re-run to target just
these items, adding them into the new archive alongside items
that were previously successfully migrated.
Compliance: All migration
activity is logged and audited to ensure the integrity of your
email records and preserve chain-of-custody as you move data
from one archive to another.
Shortcut Conversion:
TransVault’s Advanced Mailbox Migration capability converts
legacy shortcuts to work seamlessly with the new archive
environment. The shortcut migration process is entirely
seamless to the end user and can take place whilst the user is
online.
